Satellite sessions take place on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 November 2024, before the full Symposium program begins. These have been organized and coordinated by the host of the satellite session (government agency, institution, NGO, civil society, private company). Some of these events are by invite only, while others are open to all HSR2024 participants.

Opening Ceremony

The Opening Ceremony will begin the curated HSR Program and will take place in the afternoon. This will include our first plenary session which focuses on planetary health, featuring speakers from the World Bank and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, chaired by Prof. Chiho Watanabe, Executive Advisor to the President of Nagasaki University, Japan.

This will be followed by the Welcome Reception, hosted by our Local Organizing Committee.

Our plenary session will focus on inclusion in times of peace and conflict, with speakers from the Center for the Study of Equity & Governance in Health Systems and WACI Health.

The rest of the day offers a selection of smaller sessions on a variety of topics. There are capacity building focused sessions and the opportunity to network and discuss attendees latest research work during the breaks in our poster area.

The marketplace is also open for you to visit and browse the Symposium booths from organizations working within health and health systems.

The Social Night hosted by the Local Organizing Committee also takes place on Wednesday. Please note tickets for this are now sold out.

Our plenary will focus on governance & institutional frameworks.

The rest of the day again offers a selections of sessions for you to attend, and a new set of academic posters is available for you to engage with in the exhibition hall.

The marketplace will also be open for you to visit and browse the Symposium booths from organizations working within health and health systems.

The day begins with a selection of sessions on a variety of topics. Again, there will be capacity building focused sessions and to opportunity to network and discuss attendees latest research work during the breaks in our poster area.

The Closing Ceremony takes place in in the afternoon to end the Symposium. There is a final plenary session focusing on knowledge for just health systems.

About the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) and HSR2024

With each city successfully selected to host the bi-yearly Global Health Symposium, there is a Local Organizing Committee (LOC) playing a pivotal role to support Health Systems Global (HSG) to organize the event.

For HSR2024, the 8^th Global Symposium on Health Systems Research, our LOC is acting as the local secretariat in Japan, working closely with the HSG Board to help the successful implementation of the Symposium. The LOC work with HSG to select the keynote speakers, but also identify donors and supporters, engage government bodies, as well as research and academic institutes and CSOs and organize cultural entertainment, alongside so much more.
