Executive summary
The Sixth Global Symposium on Health Systems Research (HSR2020) brought together 2,350 participants from 125 countries in a virtual Global Symposium to explore how we can build health systems that improve people’s health and are socially just. HSR2020 had more delegates than ever participating from low- and middle-income countries and from nearly all regions, and 70% of delegates were first-time participants in a Global Symposium on Health Systems Research.
HSR2020 took place from November 2020 to March 2021 in three phases:
- Phase One – from 8 – 12 November 2020 – featured live and on-demand sessions, including plenaries, parallel sessions, skills building sessions, special panels, and virtual networking
- Phase Two – from 25 November 2020 – March 2021 – consisted of fortnightly parallel sessions to promote and facilitate exchange and community building around the HSR2020 sub-themes
- Phase Three – 31 March 2021 – was a culminating event to synthesize the main learnings from HSR2020.
The theme of HSR2020 was Re-imagining health systems for better health and social justice.
